I Captured Every Color Combination in 1 Ball of Handspun Yarn with this Weaving Technique! 🌈
With a handspun rainbow yarn, I'm weaving a full rainbow gradient shawl on my tri-loom. This was such a fun project! I'll take a break in the middle to rest my arms so I'll give you a peak at how my flax beds are growing. And as a fun bonus, watch to the end to find out about the day in the life of a Rainbow Yarn Influencer! Now that I've done continuous strand weaving with a rainbow, should I try a fractal spin next? What colors would you experiment with?

So you are depending on one man, Sir Woolley, to spread the information on spindle whorls but not the approximately half of the human race that would have been using them for thousands of years. If they couldn't or wouldn't do it, what was he supposed to do about it? The quote you used was somewhat dismissive but was that misogyny or was it more a feeling that tons had already been written on the subject, which he expressed in the quote, or even just a simple lack of interest in the specific subject because it wasn't his thing. I like this subject but I could really care less about the construction and innovations used in the gear used to help horses be useful to us even though I know it is tremendously important. We can't all be interested or even know, if we were, everything. Plus by the time he was doing his work commercial spinning looms and factories would have been in place so I tend to think that the lack of interest might have also come from the advancements in technology at the time. Also do you consider it misogyny that the inventor of the commercial loom and the washing machine, for that matter, were men? Meaning that two things that took a considerable amount of time and effort for women became significantly easier making her life much better. Your video did have some interesting points and expressed your subject well. I am sorry but I see no misogyny whatsoever.

Another point about the importance of spindles in human development. They're proto-lathes, and the lathe was the backbone of the industrial revolution. They needed a spindle to make the first one, and then you could use it to make rounder things, which allows you to make a more precise lathe, to yet again make a more precise one, this process is still ongoing. Very informative and you know what you're talking about. Only issue is that at parts it sounded like you weren't confident in what you were talking about, but obviously you do know what you're talking about so it's unfortunate.

Hey Jillian. Art historian here. Not a fiber arts guy but i have been watching a few videos just to wrap my head around the the 45 or so major fiber arts processes. Just a little tip. Acryllic is actually a form of plastic. I don't know why manufacturers label things the way they do. Anything polymer based is a plastic. The word plastic is actually a frustrating one, if you start to look into materials. It's WAY too general a category to mean very much. Thanks for your videos. They're much more aimed at the craft learner then someone like me who wants to be able to look at something made from fibers and be able to say "oh that's a hooked or tufted rug - or a crotchet vs knotted textile - or wax resist printed woven linen.". You know ... Art historian stuff. We describe things and put them in historical context. We don't actually make them! Lol 😂 but i enjoy your vids anyways Just thought you might want to know this so you don't get deceived the art supply store one day. "Would you like the acrylic or plastic one, maam?". You know ... P.S. i said your videos are more for the craft learner. The funny thing is that this is true for the fiber arts in general. Compare to the videos you'd find for, say, ceramic pottery or masonry carving. Half of them are just trying to impress the ladies. (And they might just be succeeding ...)

The Bible talks about virtuous women. Women of God. And in the Bible, women worked hard to support their household! Here is an excerpt from Proverbs: (Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands. She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms. She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants. Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.” Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.) Proverbs 31:10‭-‬31 NKJV I love serving the Lord Jesus Christ as a woman! We are called to do great things for the glory of God! ✝️🎉

This is the most beautiful video. Everything you said resonated with me. I got interested in spinning because I read in The Mists of Avalon that spinning made Morgaine see visions, but I didn't get involved with fiber until years later when I actually had a series of visions involving knitting and weaving. I started knitting after that but I've only just started spinning to save my carpal tunnels from too much knitting. Your videos have been very helpful.
